Local Attractions

Hartfield is a village and parish on the northern edge of Ashdown Forest, midway between East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells on the B2110. There are many local attractions near to the village including Hever Castle, Groombridge Place and Lingfield Racecourse.

The village of Hartfield itself was the setting of the Winnie-the-Pooh books and Cotchford Farm in Upper Hartfield was the home of the author AA Milne and later Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones.

If you're keen on outside activities then Hartfield is the perfect base. Not only is it a stone’s throw from Ashdown Forest but there is also a disused railway line (the Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells Central Line, also known as the Forest Way or National Cycle Route 21) which is used by cyclists, walkers and runners alike.

We have bikes for hire at the pub, so you don’t even need to bring yours with you. These are available from the Country Bikes station in our car park. If you have any special requests, such as children’s bikes or extra adult bikes, then please contact Country Bikes at least 24 hours before you arrive.

If you're a golfer then you need look no further than Sweetwoods Park Golf Club, Holtye Golf Club and Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club.
